Overheard in a downtown Denver office building . . . .

"Hi Betty. I hear you and Bob had dinner with the boss last night. Must be nice."

" Oh yes! The dinner was great. We went to that new French restaurant in LoDo. I was really having fun . . . until the conversation turned to computers and networks. I hardly said another word the rest of the evening! Honestly Sally . . . I never felt so stupid in all my life. This computer stuff is changing so fast. I just barely manage to keep up with the software I use at work. I'm not a computer geek like Bob. You'd think someone would invent a way for ordinary people like us to learn all this computer and network stuff."

" That's for sure. And taking computer courses is so expensive and inconvenient.   Besides, I've always hated classrooms and school. I'm either so far ahead that I'm bored to death,  or so far behind that I feel like an idiot! Just once, I'd like to learn at my own pace."

" Sally . . . I couldn't agree more!"

" And what I really hate . . . is readjusting the whole family's schedule and driving on these horrible, grid locked roads, just to take another overpriced computer course in an uncomfortable classroom.  At the end of the day . . . the last thing I want to do is get more stressed out. I'm away from home enough. The last course I took cost me several hundred dollars and all I got out of it was a stupid certificate.

" Oh Sally . . . I know exactly how you feel."

I didn't learn anything I can use at work. The class was taught by a nerd who geared the lectures to the computer geeks and I was so lost. I only kept going because I'd already paid for the class."

"Why do they do that? Most of us computer and software users aren't geeks or gurus! I'm up to my armpits in paperwork here at work . . . and now the computer guy just installed the latest version of that complicated office suite software. I haven't finished learning the old version yet. If our computer guy ever quits or transfers, I'm dead. He answers all my questions, but I hate to keep bothering him all the time. We now have a new network, an INTRANET,  all new workstations and new office software. I'm falling behind more and more. I feel so stupid and I have to keep up. Everything's done with a computer now. There's got to be a better way to learn this stuff."

"Well if you find it, let me know. See you at lunch"

"Ok. Bye."
